False Promises

As the election is coming closer the various parties have stepped up their camaigns.Every one is promising to do more for Mardan. Her is one report:

MARDAN:(APP): 2007
President General Pervez Musharraf will soon visit Mardan district and will announce special developmental package for the area that would change destiny of people, Political Affairs Minister Amir Muqam said on Saturday.

Talking to delegation of PML office bearers after offering fateha for departed soul of Anwar Khan in Mardan district, he urged the party workers to start preparation for the landmark visit of the President.
While referring to upcoming general election, he said Pakistan Muslim League will win it on the basis of its performance. The Minister said that PML government has completed record developmental projects in NWFP while work on more than 200 is in progress.
Amir Muqam said that PML government has achieved great laurels in the field of development which has no precedence in the past, adding that projects of billions of rupees are under way in the country which on completion would give boost to the socio economic activities.
Referring to some gigantic projects such as Lowari tunnel, Gomalzam Dam and Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway (M-I) projects, Amir Muqam said that these projects after completion would not only make this part of the country a hub of economic activities but would change the destiny of people.
Amir Muqam who is also the provincial president of PML urged the party workers to make unity in their ranks and spread the message of the party to each and every corner of the country so that it could emerge triumphant in next elections.

Those who have the vision need to assess these political slogans. One can say that:

1.There was an ideal opportunnity for President Musharraf to establish a University in Mardan. It would have given him and his Party a very good reputation and in return votes in the next general elections. An oppportunity missed!!

2.The projects mentioned in the news were started by previous Governments. So it will be wrong to put a claim on these projects, particularly if these are not completed in the last 8 years.

3.The Prime Minister visited Mardan during the devastating Flood and made a few promises.Nothing happenend and the destroyed brdiges still waiting to be reconstruction.
