No Train arrives at this wonderful Train Station!!!

The Biggest Lomotive Factory and No Train Service !!!

There is no doubt that Locomotives are represented as the cleaner alternative to trucks, Buses, coaches and play a vital role in movement system from cargo to local and cross-country destinations.
Whenever I travel from Mardan to Peshawar or in opposite direction towards Swat, in private or public transport, the Rail track of Mardan always attracts my attention. I cannot stop myself to discuss the importance of this track with the person beside me. The Track is so naturally built along the roadside and is already connected to Peshawar, Nowshera and Dargai-Malakand. There is a good possibility to be connected to Swabi and swat.

The Rail track is of great importance to Mardan in many regards. The benefits are:

1. Decrease heavy road traffic and congestion towards Peshawar and Swat
  2. Avoid the heavy loss of human lives due to road traffic accidents. These individuals are perfectly healthy. 3. Will play a vital role in transportation of local Goods and products towards the mainstream. Hence a better Market for Mardan.
4. The rail system allows more room and comfort. The Passengers can read or write, especially for elderly and female passengers.

5. Average speed can be doubled in comparison to the bus, thus offering attractive journey times, less labour cost for the passenger mile, and better usage of equipment.

6. Last but not the least that Rail is Environment friendly and is a better solution to reduce the pollution.

The biggest locomotive factory is situated only 5 km outside Mardan but surprisingly there is no train service to Mardan. Unfortunately during the last 60 years the train service has been destroyed. Who is responsible for this?

It’s the time for the common masses to come forward and form a group to put pressure on the local government as well as provincial government. The people of Mardan definitely need a good train service and they deserve to live like the people of the modern world.

Reconstruction of the destryed Bridges...

gulai-gudar-pul.jpg

The severe flood in August 2006 swept away the bridges. It was a very genuine demand of the people to reconstruct these briges.Although it took more than two years for the officials to listen to the people but now full credit to the ANP government. The reconstruction work on one of these bridges in Bibi Abai has started.....Read More

27 May 2009......

Electricity is a major problem in Mardan now-a-days. I know it is a problem for the whole country but Mardan is facing a lot of power shut down. For example, in Mardan (PF 23, Chief Minister’s constituency) the load shedding is for 5-6 hour while in Rawalpindi just about 2 hours per day. I personally made a complaint to AC Mardan twice but no response.

Our CM has installed a huge generator. I my self have resources to install UPS but I feel for the poor people. Those who can not solve the problems shall quit the posts and appoint someone who can do the job.

Is Peoples Party ignoring its supporters?........

rahimdadkhan-ppp.JPG

Peoples Party is a major party of Pakistan which is ruling the country now. Many poor and sincere people worked for the success of the party, particularly at the time of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. One would expect from the party to acknowledge the sacrifices of these workers who gave their lives for the party. But is it doing it?
One such example is the sacrifice of Mir Ghazan Babab of Saro...Read More

Cultural heritage and buildings have its historical significance. It

represents the taste and theme of the time. The Guides Memorial

Mardan also has a very relevant historical importance. It was built by the British in 1892 in memory of their soldiers who sacrificed their

lives in defence of Queen’s Residency in Kabul in September 23rd 1879.

Shopping Plaza

The district government has decided to build shopping plazas on the uncovered areas of the hospitals including the DHQ Hospital on Shamsi Road. In an official meeting it was decided that a two storey shopping plaza will be built on two sites, one on the female side and one on the male side of the hospital. The idea behind such proposals is that the income generated will be spent to improve facilities for the patients. The main disadvantage of this decision will be the increase rate of infection in the hospitals. The open and green area will be destroyed. Moreover there will be health and safety issues because of the increase in the number of people and traffic around the hospital areas.

Modern Antique Mafia

Kashmir Smast is one of the most important and scenic archaeological sites of Mardan dating back to 2nd century AD to 5th century AD. The site is comprised of many ruins of monastery, temples, and living rooms both inside and outside a great cave. The site was explored by a British, G Garrek, in 1881 and then excavated by Nishi Kawa, a Japanese archaeologist in 1960s.

The great cave and the near by mountains have a good number of ancient buildings and inscriptions.

For a long time the smugglers have conducted illegal excavations and destroyed the valuables .There is now a new group of Antique Mafia who brings power generators and other metal detectors to find treasures. They work throughout the night and the day time as well.

Unfortunately there is no one to stop them and the sites are running down day by day. It is the need of the time that the concerned departments and the provincial government take firm steps to protect history from the illegal hands. It must be protected for future generations.

Power supply ....

Loadshedding is on the rise for the past few months throughout the country. It is a result of the negative policies of the past government and the current government is unable to do much about the problem.

I live in Rustam, which is a big town of the Mardan district. It is badly hit by power shortage and loadshedding is observed here for almost 13 hours daily. It has made people’s lives miserable and has affected all kinds businesses. Students are its main victims because it’s end of their educational year and their exams are round the corner. They cannot prepare for the exams due to frequent power failures. I request the prime minister, the federal minister for water and power and the NWFP chief minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti (who belongs to the Mardan district) to direct WAPDA for the uninterrupted power provision to the Mardan district.                                                 (Manzoor Ali,Rustam Mardan)

Mardan Hospitals

Is the Hospital Ready for a Major Disaster?

(This article was published in Frontier Post 4 months ago.Any notice taken by the government officials? )

The frequency of Bomb blasts in Mardan is rapidly on the increase. In the last two months at least five bombs exploded in different areas of Mardan District. So far we are lucky that the number of casualties in these blasts is low. But if these attacks continue then this number will definitely go higher.

The question now is what will happen if a bomb explodes in a busy market place which is full of people? Obviously it will be a major disaster and there will be fatalities and serious injuries. The victims will need immediate ambulance service and treatment in the hospitals of Mardan. These hospitals are already underfinanced and the medical facilities are negligible. It will be wrong to send these patients to Peshawar where the situation is even worse. The government dose not have the capability of stopping these attacks and the people can only pray for their safety and lives. But what the government can do is to start working on a Major Disaster Plan. It needs to improve the health facilities and train the doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and other personnel of the hospitals in Mardan as well as other districts. With the government claiming to have a huge financial reserve, it shall not be a big burden on the ministry of Finance.

Still No Bridges

The residents of the areas affected by the flood in 2006 have shown their anger by not voting for certain political parties and their candidates in the elections. Many bridges were destroyed by the devastating flood in Mardan. These have not been reconstructed in the last one and a half year. As a result the people as well as the cattle are facing enormous problems. In the cold weather one has to cross the river half submerged in water.

The locals decided not to vote those parties which were in power at the time of the flood and did not reconstruct the bridges. One such party was PML (Q) and the other was MMA. The new ANP led government is expected to come to the rescue of the people. A good learning point!
