Rustam Hospital
Rustam is a historical
village and is situated about 20 miles from Mardan. It has a small hospital which is situated at a very scenic location. The
hospital was built for a small population which has significantly grown now. There are quite a few doctors from Rustam
who are working in different parts of the world but a couple of them have worked hard to bring some good changes in the hospital.
Amongst these are Dr Zahir Shah and the ex Health secretary Dr Ali Sher Khan. A few years ago an NGO tried to set up a
health project in Rustam Hospital with the help of th World Bank
but it did not materialise as there was so much bureaucracy involved in the process. And the funds were never released from
Islamabad. The hospital has the potential to treat a large
number of patients which in turn will reduce work load on hospitals like Mardan and Peshawar.
But it needs the attention of the provincial health authorities. The people of Rustam feel their hospital has been neglected
in the recent past.
