There are some beautiful museums in the world which attract millions of visitors. The region of Mardan is rich in culture and especially Gandhara remains are matchless. The people of Mardan had the idea of a museum for a long time and they were keen to preserve the heritage. For this reason they formed National Heritage Preservation Societies in the past. Ultimately with the interest of the local Government Officials and the then commissioner of Mardan, Mr R N Sahibzada, the proposal of building a museum in Mardan was made in 1990. The museum was opened in April1991.

The original name is Takht-i-Bahi. This town is situated 15 km from Mardan on Swat Malakand road. In 1908/9 the ancient Buddhist history was discovered in the mountains. Large numbers of buildings look beautiful on top of the mountains.

Unfortunately the possessions of the houses and buildings have been taken away illegally and maybe decorating some famous buildings in the rest of the world. The population is expanding and new houses are approaching the site. If ignored for a few more years, the tourist and historic attractions will disappear.

Cultural heritage has a great historical significance. It represents the taste and theme of the time. The Guides Memorial Mardan also has a very relevant historical importance. It was built by the British in 1892 in memory of their soldiers who sacrificed their lives in defence of Queen’s Residency in Kabul on September 23rd 1879.This historical memorial was built in the centre of Mardan city.

AWKUM, Mardan - MPhil / PhD Admissions for Session 2011-2012

Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, has extended the date for admission in M.Phil. and Ph.D. up to December 06, 2011.

Admission Forms are available on the university website and at all the campuses of the university.

Main Campus, College Chowk, Mardan

1. M.Phil. Islamic Studies

Eligibility: BA (Honors)/MA (Islamic Studies) with a minimum CGPA 3.0 in semester system or first division in annual system.

2. M.Phil. Education

Eligibility: MA/M.Ed. or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA 3.0 in semester system or first division in annual system.

University College of Science, Shankar (AWKUM)

1. M.Phil. Botany

Eligibility: B.Sc. (Honors)/M.Sc. ( Botany) with a minimum CGPA 3.0 in semester system or first division in annual system.

2. Ph.D. Botany

Eligibility: M.Phil. (Botany) with a minimum CGPA 3.0 in semester system or first division in annual system.

3. M.Phil. Chemistry (Organic, Inorganic, Physical, Analytical)

Eligibility: B.Sc. (Honors)/M.Sc. (Chemistry) with a minimum CGPA 3.0 in semester system or first division in annual system.

4. Ph.D. Chemistry (Organic, Inorganic, Physical. Analytical)

Eligibility: M.Phil. (Chemistry) with a minimum CGPA 3.0 in semester system or first division in annual system.

5. M.Phil. Biochemistry

Eligibility: B.Sc. (Honors)/M.Sc. (Chemistry) with a minimum CGPA 3.0 in semester system or first division in annual system.

6. M.Phil. Mathematics

Eligibility B.Sc. (Honors)/M.Sc. (Mathematics) with a minimum CGPA 3.0 in semester system or first division in annual system.

7. Ph.D. Mathematics

Eligibility: M.Phil. (Mathematics) with a minimum CGPA 3.0 in semester system or first division in annual system.

Document Requirements

Attested photocopies of the following documents:

  1. SSC, HSSC and DMCs
  2. BA, B.Sc., MA/M.Sc., M.Phil.
  3. Domicile Certificate
  4. CNIC
  5. 3 passport size photographs
  6. Character Certificate issued by institute last attended
  7. Migration Certificate for students of other university

Processing fee. Rs.1,000 for M.Phil and Rs.1,500 for Ph.D. should be submitted along with the admission form in the shape of a bank draft in favor of Treasurer, Abdul Wall Khan University Mardan. The fee can also be deposited in any Allied Bank Limited (ABL) branch online account number 0273-0116700078.

Last date for submission of admission form is December 06, 2011.

Admission Guidelines

  1. Incomplete admission forms or applications received after due date will not be entertained.
  2. For M.Phil., NTS/GAT with a minimum a 50% cumulative score.
  3. For Ph.D. International/Subject GRE with at least 50% percentile.
  4. In service candidates shall apply through proper channel.
  5. No third division in academy career.
  6. Higher Education Commission (HEC) rules will strictly be followed for admission in M.Phil./Ph.D.
